Cutting his teeth playing house parties, he befriended John Dwyer of Thee Oh Sees, who released his first proper, self-titled album on his label Castle Face in 2008, and he was soon honing his raw wired garage rock sound on follow-ups 'Lemons' and 'Melted'. Raised by his adoptive parents in Laguna Beach, Orange Country, he first fell in love with music through Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin and played drums in high school bands Love This and Epsilons, spending his time surfing, skating and obsessively going to gigs with like-minded local punk rock kids. A leading light of California's lo-fi, garage rock community, Ty Segall was immersed in vinyl crates of psychedelic surf groups, scratchy punk, distorted 1970s hard rock and obscure Krautrock records from his early teens and has been prolifically releasing records and playing with an endless number of bands since the late 2000s.
